Postmortem Devlog
Successes :
I looked up the canvas of an ordinary platformer game and was inspired to create this long canvas background as a journey for the fox to get to home . It worked well. The animation of the fox walking and interacting with the boxes also worked. I tried to incorporate more of the interactive designs such as pushing the boxes to cover up the traps, moving platforms, etc.
Failures:
We were working as a group and started with a completely different storyline, but the game did not come out as we expected. Since it was designed a three level game with some restrictions, I had to start making a new game which is this one to make it a single level platformer game. The background I drew for the previous corporation was scaled in short rectangles, which worked for the three levels game but not for the single level platformer. If I continue to use assets from the previous design, the space would be limited and the game would be very short. I tried to put the assets in one scene and it was difficult to make it a complete process of a platformer game with enough interactions. Therefore, I created a new background for this game to make the journey longer and more complex. It was difficult to make everything again since I had to work on my final game project at the same time. I forgot to add in sound and some of the animations did not work out smoothly. I did not have much time on this project, the bugs took me too long to resolve.
Lessons Learned:
From this project, I learned how to use the long canvas to create a traditional platformer game. I also learned how to animate the villain to move in multiple aspects. I learned how to create interactive objects.
Future Development:
- Add background sound & sound effects.
- Create more levels of increased difficulties.
- Refine the arts.
